Desert Isle Keeper Review Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children When I first learned of this novel I was emphatically not going to read it. The back cover blurb hinted of horror novel aspects. The pictures interspersed in the text gave me a cre ... (read full critics)

This book caught my eye while browsing Amazon. The pictures were unique, and after reading the summary, I felt hooked. The story sounded like an early 20th century Charles Xavier's School of the Gifted (X-men). The premise had me, and I read this fairly quickly. It feels like a young adult novel, which I wasn't expecting. Also, about three fourths of the way through I realized the story would be unable to effectively wrap up in the remaining pages, which was also an unexpected hitch. I didn't realize it was merely the first book in a series (the next book is planned for a 2013 release).
If you don't mind a light read, and starting a series that won't have a sequel for a year, I'd suggest picking it up. I enjoyed the tale, and I'm exited to see the world expanded in the sequel.
