Shadow games wasn't quite as good. The book felt a little clumsy. It felt more like "traditional" fantasy. There was a lot of travelling. I must admit I did not enjoy this book as much as the other grade two readers. First the plot wasn't that engaging. There was a woman who was brought to a hospital and had an operation and slowly got better. As plots go it wasn't much. There was also a strange cultural disconnect in that the family had to hire a private nurse to look after the mother while she was in the hospital because they didn't have time to look after her. Which made me wonder do you have to hire private nurses to look after you in hospitals in China? And if so do you give them gifts of expensive computers for doing their job? It was all very strange. I must say this was my least favourite of the level two books so far. Because of the nature of the story, suffering brain injury and having operations there was a lot of new vocabularly in the first couple of pages which was more unbalanced than the other books and disrupted the flow of reading.
